"[Mariners] have written one of its most brilliant chapters. They have delivered the goods when and where needed in every theater of operations and across every ocean in the biggest, the most difficult and dangerous job ever undertaken. As time goes on, there will be greater public understanding of our merchant's fleet record during this war [World War II]."
President Franklin D. Roosevelt

SS Stephen Hopkins Chapter Mission
The mission of the SS Stephen Hopkins is to get a copy of our World War II memory book, Maritime Tales of the Sea, in every school and library so future generations will have an understanding of what the WWII merchant mariners' role was to help win the 2nd World War. Maritime Tales of the Sea

We have also reproduced the unforgettable picture story of the U.S. Maritime Service Training Station at Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn during World War II. This 40-page booklet contains more than 160 photographs that illustrate the intensive training merchant seamen had to undergo. To order click on this pdf: USMerchantMarineSheepsheadBaybooklet.pdf
